Understanding the Timing Belt

It is difficult for some people to keep up with the various aspects of their vehicle that help make it run properly. One part that some of us overlook is the timing belt. The timing belt is a rubber belt that helps line up the actions of the camshaft and the crankshaft so that valves within the vehicle may continue to move safely.

In some vehicles, the timing belt is actually a chain. That doesn't really matter because it serves the exact same purpose. It is there to make the operation of the vehicle safer and possible in general.

Newer vehicles can go about 100,000 miles before they need a timing belt replaced, but it may be sooner than that for some older vehicles. Check-in on your vehicle often in regard to this as it may be necessary to get it replaced sooner than you might otherwise suspect. Stay on top of these things to control costs.
